Application software for the evaluation of the lightning performance of overhead distribution lines on the basis of the statistical method. The SM-LPDL software allows for the effects of line parameters, soil resistivity, shielding of nearby objects, surge arrester characteristics and lightning crest current distribution on the lightning performance of overhead distribution lines to be easily quantified. The software is a useful tool for utilities for assessing the lightning performance of distribution lines as well as for the selection of the necessary protection measures. The SM-LPDL software can also be used for educational purposes. Download
