Application software for the evaluation of the lightning performance of overhead distribution lines on the basis of several lightning attachment and coupling models. The LPDL software allows for the effects of line parameters, soil resistivity, shielding of nearby objects, surge arrester characteristics, lightning crest current distribution as well as lightning attachment and coupling models on the lightning performance of overhead distribution lines to be easily quantified. The software is a useful tool for utilities for assessing the lightning performance of distribution lines as well as for the selection of the necessary protection measures. The LPDL software can also be used for educational purposes. Download
